What is this new payment spoof scam?
In this, scammers make payment through a fake UPI app and show the screen of transaction success to the other person. But in reality the payment never reaches the receiver. This is called Payment Spoof.
People get trapped in payment spoof
Actually, these days many fake UPI apps have come. There are many such apps which are available on Google Play Store. In these, a screenshot of successful transaction can be easily created.
In such apps, a page of Go to Fake Pay appears, on clicking which there is an option to enter the details of the receiver. What’s more, these people themselves fill the name and enter the amount. Not only this, date and time are also put in it.
After this, a trick is adopted to maintain the closing balance in the history, so that no person has any doubt. After doing all this, a page of transaction success appears which looks exactly like the original. Thinking this to be true, many people fall into this scam.
Avoid this scam like this
- To avoid this type of scam, you should take some special care.
- If you use merchant UPI, then you must install a speaker so that you get a notification when the payment comes.
- You can set the features to receive notification on receiving payment in the phone.
- Use only RBI registered UPI to make payment.
- Be sure to check the transaction history to verify received payment.
